How to Write the UC Prompts: the Ultimate Online Video Course

hey Ethan saw your college essay guy here inviting you to my course how to write the UC application prompts so there are eight prompts and there are some really specific things that the UCS are looking for will address what are those specific things are looking for how can you connect each of these prompts or the ones that you choose because you’re only going to choose for two specific parts of you how do you stand out how do you make sure you’re that all the amazing parts of you are ending up in your application how do you focus on that activities list to make sure it really pops and how do you use that additional info section so we’ll cover all that over the course of six hours you’ll have with me hope you check out the course take a look at this quick preview and I’d love to have you along for the ride in March 2016 the UC prompts changed and some people freaked out and some people like you know some counselors emailed me I’m like what do we do and so I got to thinkin and I thought well this would be a cool opportunity to to you know to find out why they change and to put together some new resources for ways to find your you see your for UC essay topics in about four minutes and I don’t mean that if you’re a student listening to this that you need to find your topic in four minutes I just mean that I’m gonna spend about four minutes talking about these exercises so this is the short version I hold the position that everyone is a genius so how are you a genius and if you look at the handout you’ll see there are seven different there are seven multiple intelligences you know based on Howard Gardner’s multiple intelligences and the fun exercise here is to rank yourself you don’t have to have all of these but it’s nice if you have all of them it’s nice if you have an unusual topic if I had to say that one of these things is most important I’d say the thing in the middle unusual connections name the skill and then show me how it’s manifest in your life you know juggling is my skill and I juggle in all these ways and I juggle it you know retirement communities and I delight people but I also juggle things in my life right so juggling takes on a metaphoric significance in this imagined game with yourself imagine that I’m sitting across the table from you and you’re trying to stump me with some of these uncommon connections in terms of finding your topics I think for your you see activities your your you see essays your activities list is gonna be a great source and that may be kind of obvious but I just wanted to underscore it I wish we were in dialogue here and I could say well how do you know if it’s a no if it’s a great topic maybe we can discuss that more in the Q&A but here’s how I feel a great leader sees where needs our so where have you seen where a need is that feels like a little gem a stand out you see si like the one we just read he has an unusual topic like the sont or unusual connections this on tor has taught me all the things that I just mentioned social change connection to my family heritage and it has unusual language which I’ll call craft so from my money and here’s the takeaway here I think the main difference between the common app and you si si s is that students are going to want to value information over poetry

Amber Rivera ENC1101 argumentative essay on Abortion

hi my name is amber Varun today I’m going to talk to you about my opinion on abortion abortion is a removal of an embryo or fetus from the uterus in order to terminate pregnancy abortion is a highly controversial topic and it seems like the world disagrees on getting one is absolutely needed in my opinion I am a strong believer in pro-choice I believe that the woman who is pregnant has the right to end her pregnancy but with guidelines such as you can now abort the baby after 20 weeks or after due to the fact that the fetus is viable and can live without the mother and in other words people who are pro-life believe that abortion and birth control and plan B is murder this Dame is incorrect because abortion is a murder it is a removal of an embryo when it is not a child it cannot feel here understand what is happening during abortion birth control isn’t killing anything it is preventing the egg from attaching itself to the endometrium or the uterine lining plan B acts before their pregnancy even starts Plan B prevents pregnancy it is not terminate an already existing pregnancy it is proven in the information on the box of Plan B or birth control if Plan B was considered an abortion pill abortion wouldn’t even be an issue Plan B would let’s talk about the facts here three-fourths of women that have an abortion are already mothers and they can’t afford another child so people feel the need to get an abortion for many reasons such as having a baby is expensive or this possum the relationship isn’t supportive or maybe it was rape or incest the list goes on to why a woman feels the need to get an abortion so again I feel that it should continue to be legal but with guidelines and not difficult to reach a clinic when you’re in need here in my city it takes about 30 to 45 minutes to get to an abortion clinic and to me that is a commute I will not like to decide to get an abortion and drive 30 to 45 minutes to get it and then to also be counseled and then have to come back all the way home and wait 72 hours and then to go back and then to finally have you ortion to me that is going out of your way for something that you already made a decision on I feel like once you feel like you need to have an abortion or you need to do something of that sort that is you that is your opinion that is what you want to do with your body and I agree that that’s your free that’s your freedom like it’s a free country I feel like you should be able to do whatever you need to do with your body whatever makes you happy at the end of the day I feel like you shouldn’t keep a baby just because I feel like if you want to have a baby you should be able to post food in its mouth or you should be able to put clothes on his back or a shelter the baby and take care of the baby and love the baby but if you can’t do all of these things I feel like there isn’t a need to bring the baby in the world or eating or maybe you have the baby and somebody adopts it either way it plays a huge role in freedom and religion and so many other different topics in this world I just feel like we should all be free and we should all be able to do whatever we need to make our body and our mind feel all that piece in my opinion

How to Write a Thesis in LaTeX pt 1 — Basic Structure

in this tutorial series we’re going to teach you how to write a basic thesis using latex we’re going to be using share latex as our later editor but you could use whichever editor you feel most confident with if you’ve never used latex before you may want to first watch our beginners latex tutorial series which you can find on our channel your thesis could be the longest and most complicated documents you’ll ever write which is why it’s such a good idea to use latex instead of a common word processor latex tasks that the difficult and awkward in word processors far simpler to get started will open up a blank project when writing something like a thesis it’s worth splitting up the documents into multiple tech files it’s also wise to organize the project using folders in this example we’ll create two new folders one for all the images used in the project and one for all the tech files making up the main body of the thesis now let’s return to our main tech file this is the root document and is the tech file that will draw the whole document together the first thing we need to choose is a document class the article class isn’t designed for writing long documents like a thesis so we’ll choose the report class we’ll also change the font size by adding square brackets into the document class command and specifying 12-point let’s also prepare the document for images by loading the graphics package we’ll also need to tell latex where to look for the images using the graphics path command as we’re storing them in a separate folder now let’s fill in the title author and date information notice that I’m adding the thesis title institution name and institution logo all into the title command this isn’t the best way to alter the title page so we’ll look at more elaborate ways of customizing the title page later on in the series but this will suffice for now after the title page we will need to add in an abstract dedication declaration and acknowledgement section we’ll add each of these in on separate pages using unnumbered chapters to do this we use the chapter command and add an Asterix you after these sections we’ll add a table of contents using the table of contents command now for the main body of the document in my example I will add five chapters in one of which will be an introduction and another will be a conclusion however instead of just composing these chapters in this tech file I will create a separate tech file for each chapter in the chapters folder we can then fill in these chapters with text remembering to split them up into sections and subsections you then to add these chapters into the document we use the input command in the root document remember to add in chapters forward slash before the file name so that latex knows where to find it I will now add in an appendix at the end of the document to do this use the appendix command to tell latex that what follows are appendices we still need to declare a new chapter using the chapter command despite having used the appendix command again will write the appendix in a separate file and then input it you if I now compile the document you will see all my chapters have been added to the document and a table of contents has been automatically generated this concludes the first part of the series in the next video we’ll look at using the fancy header package to configure headers and we’ll also use the geometry package to change the page layout please do subscribe to our channel to keep up to date
